About // Bio

Having derived the pseudonym from a small French community nestled in the expansive Canadian prairies, Ponteix serves the project as a symbol of resilience. It represents the practice of authenticity and staying true to oneself that has been the thread that subtly runs through Canadian born French multi-instrumentalist, Mario Lepage’s body of work. With several Canadian tours in support of their first EP release, J’Orage, Ponteix garnered considerable press and industry acclaim along the way. With a new team including co-producer Frederick Levac and artist mentors Louis-Jean Cormier and Anique Granger Ponteix began work on a matured follow up full length titled, Bastion. 

Bastion boasts a maximalist approach to production cementing in it a wall of saturated electronic rhythms that churn leaving only gaps of space for effortless percussive flourishes to pass through. Echoing chambers of gleaming synths are pitched midway between nostalgic vocals and washes effects. Glassy guitars shimmer in and out carving couloirs of light. Ponteix continues the pursuit of tapping into unfamiliar emotions imbuing a sense of relatability. In the song“Alamo” Lepage carefully Traverses themes of linguistic duality in the face of cultural assimilation and hopefulness in the face of loneliness while “La Fourche”, speaks on the many different roads one can take and the difficulty in accepting fate. The matured follow up full length dips into a myriad of various styles from hazy experimentalism to congealed pop structures.


SMALL

Under Canada’s expansive prairie skies, Ponteix overcomes musical convention in favour of unclassifiable symmetry. Mario Lepage’s intoxicating vocals flutter brightly above saturated electronic rhythms and echoing chambers of gleaming synths. The psych-pop outfit’s soundscapes harbour nostalgic lyrics sung mostly “en Français”. Now as always, Ponteix plays with language barriers while delivering to its audiences what is undeniably central to music… emotion.
